Why it is Not Vain for Christians to Get Orthodontics

I’ve had many teenagers approaching me about this topic recently, so I thought I would address it here. To be honest, I never thought I would have to and I was somewhat surprised by this topic. I’m glad though; it really shows that our congregation is thinking deeply about the Word and the implications in our modern life.

Also, here’s a full disclaimer: I had braces when I was a teenager, so is this blog post hypocritical? (For those curious, I got my braces when I was living in the UK, and went to a great orthodontist in Birmingham, Edgbaston, to be exact).

According to Revelation 9:8 “And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.”

It means God wants everyone to have healthy teeth like those of a lion. Hence, it is through our knowledge and wisdom to make that happen.

Why Christians Should Not Feel That It Is Vain To Get Braces

Even though the teeth you were born with are determined by God, having a pleasant smile, and a healthy mouth is up to you. Remember, some people are born without limbs or with eye problems. God is the provider of knowledge, wisdom, and skills and hence we should use our given talents to help people around us.

Proverbs 25:19 “Like a bad tooth and an unsteady foot is confidence in a faithless man in time of trouble.”

The quote shows that God does not expect us to live with a bad tooth. Why it is perfectly fine to use braces to straighten your teeth. Your smile is one of the most significant features of your face. It affects your confidence and attitude, both at the personal and professional level. Straightening your teeth can provide an overall pleasing smile. If your smile is not perfect, it can affect how you carry yourself around people and negatively impact other people.

Fortunately, braces can give you the complete set of straight teeth. Use of dental braces is one of the best ways of reshaping the outward growth of your teeth to become vertically inclined inside the mouth. The pairs are vital in setting the right positions of the teeth inside the mouth.

What are the main benefits of orthodontic treatment?

If your teeth are crowded, crooked or stuck out, you can have them fixed. Orthodontic treatment does not only improve your look but your health as well. 2. Improve your appearance

Remember your smile and teeth influences people’s first impression. A cute smile and straight teeth can open both social and professional doors for you.

3. Provide positive physiological effects

Orthodontic treatment can significantly impact how you feel about yourself, the self-esteem and the confidence.

4. Provide healthier gums and teeth

With the treatment, you can be guaranteed to have healthy gums and teeth. It is possible because straight teeth will eliminate the places you could not reach with your toothbrush. It also removes the risk of gum diseases and cavities among other oral problems.

5. Improve your ability to chew

Straightening of your teeth improves your ability to eat correctly. Proper functioning of muscles and jaw joints allows the mouth systems to work in comfort and harmony.

6. Reduces wear and tear on your teeth

Wear and tear of your teeth can be caused by crowded or crooked teeth or unhealthy biting relationships. Such issues can cause teeth to become weak or broken, or even become severely worn out.

7. Prepares for successful restoration treatment

Orthodontic treatment also helps in preparation for a successful healing treatment with your dentist. Placing the teeth in their proper position means the appropriate foundation for a successful restoration treatment in the future. It includes replacing of missing teeth with bridges or implants.

You Should Not Underestimate The Importance Of A Smile

People with crowded teeth or bite problems have low self-esteem and confidence problems. The Lord commands us to always look out for our health, which includes both our physical and mental health. So if you want to get a beautiful smile, go ahead and find a qualified orthodontist in your area.
